Indonesia visa on arrival: VOA, e-VOA, arrival card
Most visitors need a visa: VOA or e-VOA gives 30 days for 500,000 IDR, extendable once to 60 days. Plus the All Indonesia arrival card and Bali's 150,000 IDR tax.
If your country isn't on Indonesia's visa-free list, you need a visa, and for most visitors that means a VOA (Visa on Arrival) or its electronic version, the e-VOA. Both are single-entry, give 30 days from your entry date, and cost 500,000 IDR. The e-VOA is the easier route because you sort the paperwork online before you fly, then walk a separate lane at the airport and skip the VOA counter queue. You can extend the visa once, for another 30 days, to a maximum of 60 days.
VOA and e-VOA: the basic tourist visa
Poland is on the VOA-eligible list (Visa Category B, more than 90 countries), and so are most Western passports. The difference between the airport version and the electronic one comes down to where and when you handle the paperwork.

To enter you need a passport valid for at least 6 months, usually with 2 blank pages, plus a return or onward ticket. A temporary passport has been accepted since October 2024. You pay for the e-VOA with a Mastercard, Visa, or JCB card that has 3D Secure turned on; apply at latest 48 hours before departure, and up to 14 days ahead. Use only evisa.imigrasi.go.id, because plenty of look-alike sites imitate the office. The one authentic domain ends in .go.id.
Extension: since 2025, in person only
This is the biggest recent change. Until May/June 2025 you could extend a VOA/e-VOA online. Now it requires an in-person visit to an immigration office (Kantor Imigrasi): they take your fingerprints, a photo, and run a short interview at the counter. The fee is 500,000 IDR for another 30 days. You have to apply before your original 30-day visa expires, and processing usually takes 3–5 business days. You can extend only once, so the ceiling is 60 days.
The All Indonesia arrival card
Whatever your visa, you also fill in the digital All Indonesia arrival card. It merges the customs, health, and immigration declarations into one form with a single QR code. Do it within 72 hours before arrival at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id or in the app. Airports outside that system still use the older e-CD at ecd.beacukai.go.id (free, in English). Declare items worth over 500 USD and cash over 100,000,000 IDR. Save the QR code in two places, say a screenshot and a PDF.
Bali's tourist tax
If you land on Bali, there is a separate charge: a tourist tax of 150,000 IDR (about 8.50 USD, about 31 PLN) per foreign visitor, children included, whatever your visa. It has applied since 14 February 2024 and covers Bali only. Fly into Jakarta, Surabaya, or anywhere on Java and you don't pay it. The simplest way is to settle it online at lovebali.baliprov.go.id before you arrive.
Overstay and the hard rules
The overstay penalty bites: 1,000,000 IDR for every day, plus a real risk of deportation and an entry ban. Watch the date. Two things are worth keeping in mind for the whole trip. Indonesia has some of the strictest drug laws in the world, up to the death penalty, and enforces zero tolerance. Customs limits on entry are a maximum of 1 litre of alcohol and 200 cigarettes per person.
For longer than a holiday: the B211A visa
For a stay measured in months (a surf trip, a yoga retreat, language study), there is the B211A visit visa: 60 days from entry, extendable up to 180 days in total. It needs a sponsor and has to be arranged before you travel, so it is a different level of paperwork from a VOA. For an ordinary loop around Java or Bali you don't need it.
