JAFF returns to Yogyakarta on 28 November–5 December 2026. The organiser announces the 21st Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival with the theme INFLUX. If you're travelling through Java, this gives you a reason to leave room for Asian cinema alongside temples and city walks. Choose your screenings first, then arrange accommodation and your onward journey. Organiser's announcement
What is confirmed for JAFF 2026?
Information checked on 15 October 2026. The organiser has announced the dates and edition theme. Check the current programme, cinemas and prices on the JAFF website before booking. Below are suggested Yogyakarta itineraries to fit around your chosen screenings.
Watch the year when searching: archive pages can display a 2026 heading above JAFF20 material from 2025. Check the edition number, the date of each screening and the sales conditions. An older cinema list isn't enough to choose a hotel “near the festival”. Follow current announcements through the JAFF organiser's site.
The confirmed dates let you mark the event on your route. Booking a film needs more detail: title, day, time, venue address and subtitle language. Check whether the programme item is a screening open to viewers or an event with different admission rules.

How many days should you spend in Yogyakarta?
You don't need to shape your whole Java trip around every festival date. Choose an option that fits how much cinema you want to see. The days in this table describe a proposed stay, not types of festival pass.
| Option | Suggested plan | Check before booking |
|---|---|---|
| 1 festival day | One chosen screening and a city walk | Whether the film fits your arrival and has subtitles you understand |
| 2 days with films | Spread screenings across two days, leaving meal breaks | Whether you change venues and how you'll get back to your room |
| 3 days in Yogyakarta | A city day, a cinema day and a separate temple trip | Current tickets and transport for both parts of the visit |
For the first option, pick a film you actually want to see. For the second, leave a gap between screenings: a film's running time doesn't cover leaving the building and reaching another auditorium. If a discussion is announced after a film, decide whether you want to stay. We aren't claiming that any particular JAFF 2026 screening includes one.
Tickets and subtitles: check each screening
An international festival doesn't automatically mean English subtitles at every screening. Note the dialogue language and subtitle language separately. An overseas production still might not work for you if its only subtitles are in Indonesian. Resolve unclear descriptions before paying.
Before purchasing, compare the date on the film page, the time in the schedule and the item in your basket. Check late-entry rules, whether tickets can be changed, and how to show your confirmation. These are questions for the current sales page; we aren't transferring answers from previous editions. After purchase, save your confirmation offline with the entrance address and auditorium name.
Keep tickets, accommodation, food and local journeys as separate budget items. Without a verified 2026 price list, we can't give a reliable cost for “a day at JAFF”. You can still compare two real accommodation choices: a cheaper room requiring a journey after every film, and a more expensive room closer to your chosen venue.
What to do between films
For a short city outing, consider Malioboro and Pasar Beringharjo for a walk, batik and food. On another morning you could choose the Kraton or Taman Sari, the former garden and bathing complex. Check current opening hours and admission separately for any paid visit. Avoid packing several attractions into a break that ends with a fixed screening time.
A sample day with an afternoon film could be breakfast, one walk or attraction, lunch, a journey to the cinema and time to enter. If your film is in the morning, reverse the order. That gives you an outing you can shorten without missing the screening you've paid for.
For a meal, look for gudeg: young jackfruit cooked with coconut milk and palm sugar. Accompaniments can include meat or eggs, so check the whole serving when ordering. Bakpia Pathok with mung-bean filling is another local food to try. Our Yogyakarta food guide has more ideas for meals between films.

Accommodation, arrival and your onward Java route
When comparing rooms around Malioboro, Jalan Sosrowijayan and Prawirotaman, start by marking the current screening venues on a map. These areas offer starting points for an accommodation search; we aren't calling any of them a JAFF base without a confirmed venue list. Check the exact address, late check-in arrangements and whether you can leave luggage after checking out.
On arrival day, don't put your first screening immediately after a train's scheduled arrival or your flight landing. Allow time for walking, luggage and the transfer. If you're taking a train, compare the station name on the ticket with your accommodation instead of relying on the city name alone. Our guide to travelling around Java by train helps you plan the next leg; check current schedules when booking.
Treat Borobudur and Prambanan as separate excursions, rather than quick stops between films. On a short visit, choose one temple and give it a day without a tight deadline back at the cinema. Start with the Borobudur and Prambanan ticket and transport guide, then compare the Java PDF guides for the rest of your route.
